Studio 66 art gallery offers sculpture workshop

The 2013 train­ing pro­gramme at Stu­dio 66 art gallery be­gins on April 6 with a three-week clay sculp­ture work­shop, Fire and Earth. The work­shop, which ends April 27, is the first of five which all take place at Stu­dio 66, 66 Sixth Street, Barataria.

Lead fa­cil­i­ta­tor of the work­shop is sculp­tor Sher­lann Pe­ters.

Pe­ters' work has been fea­tured in many lo­cal so­lo and group ex­hi­bi­tions and is al­so housed in pri­vate col­lec­tions lo­cal­ly and in­ter­na­tion­al­ly.

Guest fa­cil­i­ta­tors in­clude for­mer Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies lec­tur­er Carl­stad Seales, sculp­tor Dharm­bodh West­mass and artist Tu­runesh.

The work­shop will cov­er busts, hu­man fig­ures, masks and free forms. The process­es of fir­ing, colour­ing and glaz­ing will al­so be in­tro­duced. Lo­cal clay will be used and all ma­te­r­i­al for the class­es will be pro­vid­ed by Stu­dio 66. On­ly the first 20 ap­pli­cants will be ac­cept­ed.

Work­shop ses­sions are Wednes­days from 4 pm to 7 pm and Sat­ur­days from 10 am to 1 pm. Oth­er work­shops in the train­ing pro­gramme in­clude card­board and wire sculp­ture, pa­pi­er mache and mas-mak­ing us­ing found ob­jects and re­cy­cled ma­te­ri­als.
