La Horquetta made amends after falling heavily behind at half-time, to take victory over Arouca by an even higher margin, when the final preliminary match in the Arima Basketball League Knockout Competition continued on Monday evening.
La Horquetta won the encounter 73�59 in the second match of a double-header staged at the Princes Royal Park Basketball Court, Arima.
Led by a 24-point match-high total from Jeffrey Bourne, La Horquetta struggled to find its footing in the match, and ended the first two periods trailing 14�12 and 29�22.
However, it was an inspired final two periods from La Horquetta, which went on a 27-point rampage in the third to end the period 49�39. The fourth and decisive period was also controlled by La Horquetta, which outscored its opponent 24�20.
Bourne was aided by Dexter Morion and Brent McShine who scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Maurice Francis and Anson Cumberbatch were Arouca's top players with 19 and 13 points.
In the opening match, Sangre Grande shrugged off a defiant Malabar to eventually take a comfortable 64�58 win. Ronell Winter led the Sangre Grande scorers with 18 points.
Last evening, the final preliminary match was played when O'Meara met High Voltage. San Juan Warriors, which defeated Samaroo Village, was up against La Horquetta in the second round match. The two semifinals will be played on Friday, at 7 pm and 8.30 pm. The final will be held on Sunday.
