Glamorgan women and BIG South East Port-of-Spain men captured their respective divisional titles when the fourth annual Mark Daly Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by the Technocrats Sports and Cultural Club and sanctioned by the T&T Volleyball Federation came to an end at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Sunday night. In the women's decider, Glamorgan led by national duo, Finland-based Darlene Ramdin and libero Rechez Linday brushed aside last year's and 2011 winner, Technocrats which featured national player Andrea Kinsale and US-based Samantha Prescott in its line-up 25-21, 25-21, 25-16.
This after the Macsood Ali-coached Glamorgan ended the seven-team round-robin series with an unbeaten record of 6-0 inclusive of wins over Technocrats (15-13, 15-13) and UTT (15-13, 15-5).
UTT redeemed itself somewhat by beating Defence Force 25-16, 22-25, 15-8 for third spot. The men's final was much more of a contest as SEPoS, featuring national captain Nolan Tash withstood a strong challenge from last year's champions' Southern United Volleyball Academy (SUVA) to come away with a come-from-behind, 26-28, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 in a best-of-five-set final.
SEPoS which topped its five-team round-robin group with a 4-0 records booked a spot in the final via its 25-16, 25-19 defeat of Toco Youths in their semifinal, and SUVA which also played unbeaten in its four-team round-robin series upstaged Glamorgan 21-25, 26-24, 15-8.Among the sponsors who contributed to the event were Neal & Massy Wood Group Ltd, Hi Lo Food Stores, Marketing & Distribution (M&D), Ministry of Sport, Sport Company of T&T (Sportt), Renwar Enterprises Limited, Holiday Snacks, CMB Advertising and SuperPharm.
