It took a great ride by young ap­pren­tice, Nigel Flaven­ney and a good run up the rail to take the fea­ture event for hors­es rat­ed 85-65 over 1,200 me­tres on the main track from Of­fi­cer Ike, yes­ter­day at San­ta Rosa Park in Ari­ma. The 7-1 shot, trained by Chester Roberts, was al­ways in the van but got a let in on the rail com­ing to the cor­ner and made the best of it. At the com­er, the pace­set­ting Trea­sure Hunt dropped away tame­ly, as Of­fi­cer Ike and Slip­pery Sam made their move for the lead. Rag­ing Thun­der got a run on the in­side, as North­ern Hills be­gan his chal­lenge with favourite Bec­quer­el mak­ing no progress.

In the fi­nal 200 me­tres, Of­fi­cer Ike had to give way to Rag­ing Thun­der, who was dri­ven past to set­tle the is­sue by a length. North­ern Hills stayed on for third with Slip­pery Sam in fourth po­si­tion. The win­ner record­ed the time of 1:13.00 for the trip. Rac­ing ho­n­our for the day fell to train­er De­r­ick Mosca, who sad­dled three win­ners-Con­sider­it­done, Chief's Nephew and Dream House. The day's most suc­cess­ful jock­ey was Fred­die Man­r­rique, who rode two win­ners. Rac­ing con­tin­ues next Sat­ur­day.
