American Jessica Yanz, and Germany's Sebastian Haehner are among 24 foreigners from nine countries set to compete for local clubs when the Caribbean Volleyball League serves off at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo from tomorrow (Wenesday) at 12 noon until Sunday.Yanz, was named the University of Dayton programme's first Director of Volleyball Operations in 2010. She played collegiate volleyball at both the University of Nebraska and Penn State and will line up for Glamorgan clubs which also has in its ranks another American, Andrea Justine Landi, Christine Anthony (Curacao), Shari Matthews (Barbados) and Lecia Brown (Jamiaca).
Both Defence Force-Carla Rudea Cotito (Peru), Mannika Charles (USVI), Nakini Thompson (Suriname); and Technocrats-Kamille Dwyer (Jamaica), Cherine Richards (Jamaica), Janice Valies (Suriname) and T&T's Kelly-Anne Billingy (Nantes/France) are all registered. They will all be seeking to dethrone the University of T&T, which won the title when the tournament was first held four years ago. The five-day tournament which has a first prize of US$5000 and features five men and four women's teams is being hosted by the T&T Volleyball Federation with the support of the Federation International Volleyball and the Government of T&T. It will be the first of a series of events being staged to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the T&TVF which will end with a Norceca Beach Volleyball Tournament in October. Tonight, a Technical Meeting hosted nby the Local Organising Committee takes place at Coco Lounge, Ariapita Avenue from 7pm where officials, managers, coaches, players and other participants of the league will be in attendance.
