Sprint­er Michelle-Lee Ahye in­tends to make the most of her spon­sor­ship by en­er­gy com­pa­ny BP Trinidad and To­ba­go when she com­petes at the 2012 Lon­don Olympic Games from Ju­ly 27 to Au­gust 12. "When I got the call say­ing bpTT was go­ing to spon­sor me for the Olympics, I was shocked. I couldn't be­lieve some­one want­ed to spon­sor me. This was all new to me as I nev­er had a spon­sor be­fore. Of course, I feel very hap­py be­cause this arrange­ment has helped me tremen­dous­ly with my prepa­ra­tion for the biggest mo­ment of my life," said Ahye, who is a mem­ber of the Trinidad and To­ba­go's Women 4 x 100-me­tre re­lay team.

A bpTT ath­lete am­bas­sador, Ahye was speak­ing at the Bris­tow (Caribbean) fa­cil­i­ty at the old Pi­ar­co ter­mi­nal on Wednes­day where she in­ter­act­ed with the com­pa­ny's off­shore crews. Ahye al­so dis­trib­uted spe­cial Olympic to­kens.

"I in­tend to put my best foot for­ward to make all of Trinidad and To­ba­go proud, in­clud­ing my spon­sors bpTT, for their tremen­dous sup­port. Right now, my man­age­ment team is work­ing with me to put every­thing in place for the games," said an en­thu­si­as­tic Ahye. For Corey McKen­na, a pro­duc­tion op­er­a­tor with bpTT, the op­por­tu­ni­ty to meet an Olympic-bound ath­lete was an in­spir­ing mo­ment. "I felt a re­al sense of pride when I heard that my com­pa­ny was help­ing our ath­letes pre­pare for the Olympic Games. I am thrilled to be part of this once-in-a-life­time op­por­tu­ni­ty.

"Our ath­letes need all the help they can get for the great­est chal­lenge of their sport­ing ca­reers. We wish Michelle-Lee and all the oth­er ath­letes the best," said an emo­tion­al McKen­na. The 31-mem­ber ath­let­ic team for the Lon­don Olympics are all be­ing de­scribed as "Con­querors", based on Kees Diefen­thaller's an­them "We are Con­querors", which was spe­cial­ly com­mis­sioned by bpTT in ho­n­our of the coun­try's Olympic ef­fort and the 50th in­de­pen­dence an­niver­sary.
