Jasher De Gannes secured a total of three medals while Ray J Thomas and Shaneekah Johnson got two apiece as T&T ended with seven medals, four silver and three bronze at the Seventh Pre Cadet Caribbean Table-Tennis Championship which was held at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica from July 20 to 25. In the Girls Under-11 Singles, De Gannes reached the semifinal before she was beaten by eventual champion, Rosario Sorangel of Dominican Republic 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, 13-15, 4-11. De Gannes was earlier on a round-of-16 bye before she defeated Guyana's Neviah Clarkston in the quarterfinals while countrywomen, Shaneekah Johnson and Ackayla Lucas were stopped in the quarterfinals respectively. Johnson first swept past Jamaica's Emma Dibbs 12-10, 11-8, 11-4 but was then beaten by Guyana's Salanas Jackman 10-12, 8-12, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11 with a semifinal spot at stake while Lucas beat Kelsey Davidson 11-1, 11-4, 11-7 but came up short against Sorangel 5-11, 7-11, 8-11. In the Under-11 Girls Doubles, De Gannes and Johnson had to settle for silver after losing out to Dominican Republic's Sorangel and Castro 14-12, 11-8, 11-4 in the final.
In the semifinals, De Gannes and Johnson defeated Clarkston and Jackman 12-10, 11-8, 11-5 while Sorangel and Castro stopped the other T&T duo, Lucas and Shurja Welch 11-3, 11-4, 11-7. Johnson and De Gannes had earlier booted Jamaica's Evans and Mitchell 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 while Lucas and Welch blasted Guyana's Martin and Bissu, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8. In the Boys Under-11 singles, Jakeem Welch brushed aside Raheem Meulens of St Martin 11-9, 11-7, 12-10 in the round-of-16 but then fell to Dominican Republic's, the gold medal winner, Jesus Lozano 6-11, 8-11, 8-11 in the quarterfinals while Derron Douglas was stopped at the first hurdle by Guyana's Tyriq Saunders, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 5-11. The local Under-11 Boys Doubles teams of Roberto Johnson and Welch and Messiah Walcott and Douglas were both defeated in the last-eight. Barbadians, Marcus Smith and Ramon Maxwell ousted Johnson and Welch 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11 after the latter beat Arubans Jean Hoek and de Lange 11-9, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9 in the opening round, while Guyanese duo, Jeremy Singh and Tyriq Saunders accounted for Walcott and Douglas 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8. In the Under-11 Mixed Doubles, Welch and Walcott won 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 against Guyana's Bissu brother and sister team; Welch and De Gannes stopped Jamaicanas Summerbelle and Mondell 11-5, 13-11, 11-3 and the Johnson duo got past Guyana's Martin and Rausch 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 while Lucas and Douglas fell to another Guyana duo, Clarkston and Saunders, 8-11, 11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 14-16.
However, in the next round of matches, Dominican Republic's Mariano Lockward and Castro booted Welch and Walcott 11-4, 11-3, 11-8; Guyana's Jackman and Singh defeated Welch and De Gannes 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 and Dominican Republic's Tajeda and Baez halted the run of the Johnson duo, 11-8, 11-6, 11-2. Girls Under-13 singles entrant, Nalini Boodoo had a bye in the first round of matches but was then ousted by Jamaican Kelice Sinclair 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 8-11, 7-11 while Ray J Thomas and Daniel Dick did not get past the first round after losing to Esmerlyn Castro (Dominican Republic) and Barbadian Jazel Griffith 4-11, 6-11, 6-11 and 12-14, 11-6, 9-11, 3-11.
In the Under-13 Girls Doubles, the T&T and Guyana pairing of Lopes and Ray J Thomas was beaten in the final by Guyanese top ranked pair Greaves and Homer 11-2, 11-5, 11-13, 11-9 for silver.
Earlier on, Lopes and Thomas defeated Jamaicans Mc Laughlin and Sinclair, 4-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 12-10 after the latter had beaten T&T's T&T's Nalini Boodoo and Daniel Dick 11-13, 7-11, 15-13, 11-5, 11-6 in the last-eight.
T&T's Koren Welch started well in the Under-13 Boys singles beating Barbadian Jahred Corbin 11-6, 14-12, 8-11, 3-11, 11-4, but that was as far as he got due to a 10-12, 15-13, 4-11, 7-11 lossin the quarters against another Bajann, Tyrese Knight.
And in the Doubles, Jamaicans Tyreik Thompson and Willoughby beat locals Daniel and Welch 11-9, 12-10, 11-8 and Barbadians, Steven Payne and Tyrese Knight knocked off Garraway and Maxwell, also of T&T, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4.
Over the first two days of competition T&T gathered three medals in the team events, two silver and a bronze.
In the Under-11 girls, T&T (Ackayla Lucas, Jasher De Gannes, Shaneeka Johnson) ended with a 3-1 record for second spot in the five-team round-robin pool behind Dominican Republic (4-0) while Guyana (2-2) was third while in the Under-11 boys, T&T (Jakeem Welch, Derron Douglas, Messiah Walcott, Roberto Johnson) also got silver with a 4-1 record with Dominican Republic, once again, first with a 5-0 record and Barbados, bronze, 3-2.
The trio of Nalini Boodoo, Daniel Dick and Ray J Thomas took bronze in the Under-13 Girls with a 2-2 record behind Jamaica (3-1) and Guyana (4-0) while the Under-13 boys quartet of Benoni Daniel, Koren Welch, Joshua Maxwell and Jabari Garraway failed to medal.
