Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed said yesterday he was pleased to see citizens exercising their right to associate and even protest in T&T. He made the statement when contacted for comment on the impact of yesterday's march and rally in Port-of-Spain by members of the Joint Trade Union Movement. Workers took to the streets to protest what they claimed was the lack of good governance in T&T.
Mohammed said he witnessed part of the demonstration and saw people exercising their democratic right. "They still have the freedom in Trinidad and Tobago to associate," he said. He said the event went well. "There were no major hiccups, people were able to express their views, it was a peaceful march and I congratulate all those who participated in it." Mohammed said he could not say what impact it had on the schools across the country as teachers also stayed away from classes in support of the protest action.
