The 101 Art Gallery at Holder's Studio, Woodford Street, Newtown, hosted the opening reception and private viewing for an exhibition of recent oil paintings by Karen De Verteuil on October 30. De Verteuil was born Karen Lazzari in San Fernando. She was educated at St Joseph's Convent, San Fernando, and Ontario College of Art.
Her father Dick Lazzari was a member of the Southern Art Society, so the family was exposed to the arts, particularly the works of Geoffrey and Boscoe Holder, MP Alladin and Cicy Forde. De Verteuil got an early start in art when her parents enrolled their children in art classes with Leslie Melton and David Banks.
Since 1993 Karen De Verteuil has had biennial solo exhibitions at 101 Art Gallery. This exhibition comprises 40 oil-on-canvas paintings with titles such as Reclining Nude, Nude on the Beach, Over her Shoulders, Bush Bush and Red Slippers.
Among guests at the private viewing were Robert De Verteuil, Nicola Camacho, Tiffani De Verteuil-children of the artist, her twin sister Cathryn Kelshall, Ivan Laughlin, Barbara Jardine, Ronald Harford and Paul Pantin. The exhibition runs until November 8.
