Ten-time national primary school football champions Bon Accord Government is into the semifinals of the 2012 Atlantic Primary Schools football tournament, after trouncing VOS Government 5-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, yesterday. Bon Accord, the bigger stronger team from the sister isle, dominated the clash against the Gasparillo boys, and in the end they walked away comfortable winners.
After a quiet first half in which Javon Williams gave them a 1-0 lead, Bon Accord sprung into action, slamming a further four goals past the Southerners. Jabari Francis who has played very consistently this season was on the mark twice and there were single strikes from Jokiah Leacock and Emmanual Cox. When Bon Accord reached 4-0, Nkosi James give VOS something to celebrate when he found the back of the net.
In the first game, Tobago also came out winners in the girls' quarterfinals. Pentecostal Life and Light defeated a spirited St Mary's Children Anglican on penalty kicks. This contest was an even match-up and the teams went into the half deadlocked. During the second period of play, both sides came close to taking the lead but the goalkeepers stood firm. At the end of the regulation 50 minutes, both teams were still tied at 0-0 and a further 20-minute extra time failed to separate them.
It was then down to penalty kicks and Pentecostal scored with three tries, while St Mary's missed three attempts. Pentecostal Life and Light will now await their opponents for the semifinals.
