Some 30 teams are ex­pect­ed to con­test the San Fer­nan­do Fu­ture Foot­ball Stars Tour­na­ment, host­ed by the San Fer­nan­do Sport­ing Acad­e­my, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the South­ern Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (SFA) Youth De­vel­op­ment Pro­gramme, at Skin­ner Park, San Fer­nan­do, from 8.30 am to­day.

As in the past, the tour­na­ment will at­tract some of the top foot­ball train­ing schools in South, in­clud­ing A&R Coach­ing School, Spit Fire Sports Acad­e­my, Point Fortin Youth Acad­e­my and the old­est train­ing school in San Fer­nan­do, Jan Stead­man Coach­ing School.

There will be six di­vi­sions of ac­tion all of which are boys and girls in­clu­sive, with one boys on­ly di­vi­sion, the Boys 15-and-un­der cat­e­go­ry, fol­lowed by an over-35 com­pe­ti­tion for both men and women, which is set to kick off af­ter 2 pm.

The com­pe­ti­tion is a bian­nu­al tour­na­ment held in May and No­vem­ber each year. The last tour­na­ment was nom­i­nat­ed by the Min­istry of Sport for the Best Com­mu­ni­ty Pro­gramme. All Un­der-8 an­dU-8 boys and girls will re­ceive gold medals for par­tic­i­pa­tion. All oth­er di­vi­sions will re­ceive tro­phies and medals for their first, sec­ond and third placed fin­ish­ers.

The tour­na­ment is spon­sored by the Cit­i­zen Se­cu­ri­ty Pro­gramme, the Min­istry of Sport, SporTT and from the con­tri­bu­tions of San Fer­nan­do Sports Acad­e­my.
