The ongoing series of monthly seminars for cricket coaches will continue today, at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre, Balmain, Couva, from 6.30 pm. Over the past 12 months, cricket coaches have been exposed to the expertise, advice and instructions from people who are experts in their respective fields and who have contributed tremendously to uplifting the standard of coaching in T&T.
According to West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) territorial development officer Kumar Rampat, the sessions have been designed to bring the local coaches together with the aim of forming a national body to represent all coaches. He said today's meeting would feature five-minute presentations from T&T's most successful team manager Omar Khan, technical director of the T&TCB David Williams and former WI and national fast bowler Tony Gray.
Rampat said following the presentations, participants will be afforded the opportunity to engage the guest speakers in a question and answer session for about 40 minutes. Khan will speak on Team Management, Is it a Hit or Miss Affair?; Gray will address the issue of Fast Bowling, Swing vs Pace, A batsman's Horror; and Williams will have his say on Coaching, Reaching Your Set Height.
"Like our last meeting, we envisage an attendance of over 50 coaches. We hope that coaches will take advantage of this opportunity to come and interact with these big achievers in the game. They will have the chance to quiz the panelists as to the secrets of their success and also to find out about some of the more effective methods they've used in their day to day operations," said Rampat.
The TDO said that in pursuance of the group's objectives, with the exception of East, all zones have held their zonal elections. He said East was carded to do so within two weeks. "All coaches and interested persons are invited to the forum," he said.
