A Guyanese national was among 40 people arrested during an anti-crime exercise over the weekend. Between 10 pm Saturday and 8 am yesterday, officers from the Port-of-Spain Division conducted roadblocks and searches in Port-of-Spain, Woodbrook and Laventille as part of the new anti-crime initiative launched last month.
The exercise was coordinated by Snt Supt Wayne Boyd, led by ASP Ajith Persad and included Sgts Deonarine, Sookdeo and Ross along with Cpls Spence and Williams. Among those arrested and charged were three women for loitering in Woodbrook. Four men were held for loitering, ten for narcotics, one for failing a breathalyser test and one for wounding.
The remaining 21 were held on outstanding warrants for robberies and break-ins around Port-of-Spain. During the exercise, a vehicle believed to be stolen was seized. Senior officials commended officers from the Criminal Investigations Department and the Criminal Records Office, who participated in the exercise along with officers from the Canine Unit and the Stolen Vehicles Squad. Police said 20 people are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today.
