A Guyanese na­tion­al was among 40 peo­ple ar­rest­ed dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise over the week­end. Be­tween 10 pm Sat­ur­day and 8 am yes­ter­day, of­fi­cers from the Port-of-Spain Di­vi­sion con­duct­ed road­blocks and search­es in Port-of-Spain, Wood­brook and Laven­tille as part of the new an­ti-crime ini­tia­tive launched last month.

The ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by Snt Supt Wayne Boyd, led by ASP Ajith Per­sad and in­clud­ed Sgts De­onar­ine, Sookdeo and Ross along with Cpls Spence and Williams. Among those ar­rest­ed and charged were three women for loi­ter­ing in Wood­brook. Four men were held for loi­ter­ing, ten for nar­cotics, one for fail­ing a breathal­yser test and one for wound­ing.

The re­main­ing 21 were held on out­stand­ing war­rants for rob­beries and break-ins around Port-of-Spain. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, a ve­hi­cle be­lieved to be stolen was seized. Se­nior of­fi­cials com­mend­ed of­fi­cers from the Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment and the Crim­i­nal Records Of­fice, who par­tic­i­pat­ed in the ex­er­cise along with of­fi­cers from the Ca­nine Unit and the Stolen Ve­hi­cles Squad. Po­lice said 20 peo­ple are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain mag­is­trate to­day.
