I am extremely troubled by the spate of police killings reported in Trinidad and Tobago over the last few years especially within the last 12 months.I am not in a position to provide statistics but frequent newspaper reports of killings of citizens by police, is cause for alarm. Surely there must be modern methods of training and the availability of sophisticated tools to enable policeofficers to disarm bandits and potential killers without shooting to kill. A quick scan of reports from other countries suggests that our rates are extraordinarily high and indeed such killings are rare or non-existent in most western developed and in several developing countries.
