Two members of the Royal Barbados Police Force, who are accused of rape and sexual assault of a 27-year-old Jamaican woman, have been formally charged.The Jamaica Observer identified the constables as Jonathan Barrow, 32, and a woman constable, 25-year-old Melanie Denny.Barrow is charged with serious indecency while Denny is accused of aiding and abetting Barrow to commit an act of serious indecency on the woman.Both were charged on Thursday night and appeared in District A Magistrate's Court on Friday.They are expected to reappear in court on September 1. Both were granted bail in the sum of B$5,000.The complainant in the matter said Denny let two policemen inside the cell the victim occupied at the Central Police Station in Bridgetown after she was held with marijuana in her luggage at the Grantley Adams International Airport in late February.
The victim said Barrow forced her to perform oral sex on him while she claimed the other male officer, who has not yet been identified, raped her.Barrow and Denny were pointed out during separate identification parades last week.The woman is currently serving a 15-month sentence.Meanwhile, a 23-year-old Jamaican woman who was allegedly abused by a female immigration officer has been invited by the Barbados Foreign Affairs Minister to visit Barbados to participate in a identification parade to identify the perpetrator.
