The St George's East Insect Vector Control Department will soon be housed at premises at Pasea Road, Tunapuna. Health Minister Therese Baptiste-Cornelis visited the newly-refurbished building on Tuesday and met officers of the division. The insect vector inspectors told Baptiste-Cornelis about the problems, such as improperly discarded garbage and closed houses, which affected them in the proper conduct of their duties.
Kurt Ross, a public inspector, said the Insect Vector Control Division had not been given priority in previous years. "People only remember about us when there is a dengue fever scare or when they need their homes sprayed," Ross said. The building, which cost more than $400,000, is still unfurnished, but is expected to be occupied by month end.
