Four new faces were added to the executive council of the National Basketball Federation of T&T (NBFTT) at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place at the Media Conference Room at the Ato Boldon Stadium Couva yesterday. The new individuals that will assist in the administration of the sport are former teacher/educator Trevor Morris, who is now the vice president of Organisation and Development, Leslee Ceasar, a very experience team-oriented accounts executive, who is now the vice president of finance, Cheryl Lala, who is an award winning advertising executive that will serve as vice president of Marketing and Communication and Phillip Sancho, a former union executive who will serve as assistant secretary. They were all elected unopposed in the presence of returning officer Catherine Forde of the T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC). Also elected without a contest was Nadine Khan Seemongal, who was elevated from assistant secretary to the new general secretary with full responsibility of the sport secretariat.
Khan, a former player with champion team Courts Horizon, replaced the veteran Kelvin Roberts, who did not stand for re-election. The meeting took the time to honour Roberts and show its appreciation for his dedication and yeoman service to the sport for more than three decades. Khan brings to the position her expertise as an advertising executive and having serve the organisation as its assistant secretary for the past seven months. Courtney McNish, president of the Federation position was not up for re-election.
The other incumbents were referee Earle Noel, vice-president (VP) Organisation and Development, banker Roland Yorke, VP Finance and Melony Morton, VP Communication and Marketing all of whom did not stand for re-lection. Major David Benjamin, the VP Training and Technical was re-elected.
Following the Federaon's decision last year to approve a new four year term of office for all its officers to coincide with that of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) and FIBA, the president McNish, who was elected at last year's AGM following the resignation of Brian Manning, will serve until 2013 along with the assistant secretary, the VPs of Marketing and Communication and Training and Technical, while the other officers will serve until 2015. Apart from the election of the new officers, the meeting accepted financial statements from Yorke and all reports including the minutes of the 2010 agm were discussed and approved by the meeting. The meeting also presented FIBA coaching licenses to Hayden Belgrove and Vincent Taylor, FIBA instructor license to Obadiah Asher, the Federation's Technical Director and FIBA Commissioner license to Keith Clement. Representatives from six of the sport's nine zones, all four affiliates and one of four associates attended the meeting.
