Train­er Glenn Mendez will con­tin­ue his bid to win a third triple crown when his East­er Guineas win­ner Touch D Road at­tempts to add the Grade One-Carib Mid­sum­mer Clas­sic-the sec­ond leg of the ti­tle, at the 60th run­ning at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma, to­day. The 1,900 me­tres event is a com­pet­i­tive af­fair and Touch D Road will not on­ly be seek­ing to con­tin­ue Mendez's bid but al­so to win the $270,000 first prize for own­er Ju­nior Sam­my. Mendez has won the triple crown twice and has pro­duced five win­ners of to­day's Clas­sic: Car­ni­val Mes­si­ah, Top of The Class, Crown Point, God­spell and Just In Time. Touch D Road won the Flamin­go Stakes and put up a mag­nif­i­cent per­for­mance to win the East­er Guineas, tak­ing the lead at the cor­ner and quick­en­ing away read­i­ly from his ri­vals.

He is com­ing in­to the race in good con­di­tion, hav­ing gal­loped twice over 1,000 me­tres with ex­cel­lent times. The son of Big Coun­try/Lit­tle Sophia has al­ready amassed $179,000 in earn­ings this sea­son and will have his Guineas pi­lot, San­ti­a­go Gon­za­les, in the irons. John O'Brien's Trea­sure Girl will have Cana­di­an cham­pi­on Patrick Hus­bands in the sad­dle and is ex­pect­ed to use her fine turn of foot to be com­pet­i­tive over the ex­tras 100 me­tres. Loan Shark which is trained by Dou­glas Ben­nett and ran a blind­er in the Guineas has im­proved on his third.
