National Under-19 cricketer Philton Williams was named Player of the Year in the 15-19 age group during the Digicel/Harvard Cricket Coaching Clinic's closing ceremony at the Harvard Club in St Clair yesterday.Yohance Kwesi picked up the award for Best Allrounder while Shaquille Bobb was voted Most Improved.Other cricketers to win the coveted Player of the Year Award in their respective age groups included Mickyle Nicholas (Age 13-15), Kallis Romain (Age 11-14), Michael Ambard (Age 7-11) and Tyrese Henry (Age 5-10).In his feature address, T&T and West Indies Under-19 strength and conditioning coach Ronald Rogers reminded the young players that the road to success would often be difficult.
"A career in sports, especially in cricket, is a wonderful career, which allows you to be paid to train and to travel the world. However, it takes hard work, dedication and commitment. To become an expert, it takes you to the edge of your resolve all the time. It is the area where it is uncomfortable. To excel, you've got to learn how to enjoy being uncomfortable."Now in its 41st year, the five-month clinic attracted over 200 players from around the country. Among its alumni include multiple world record holder Brian Lara, West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo and T&T players Amit Jaggernauth, Keno Mason, Anil Balliram and Zaffer Khan.
