Jimmie Barcant (formerly Seheult) celebrated her 100th birthday on July 22. Her daughter Crystal Barrett, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other family and friends in Lakeland, Florida joined in the celebrations. Her son Roger Barcant and his wife Eva crossed the Pond from London, England to join them for the grand milestone. Yves Guillaume flew up from Trinidad to represent the Seheult clan, together with Brendan O'Connor and wife Cecile from Texas, as well as Tony Seheult from Tampa, with his wife Marcia and mother Rosemary, Barcant's sister-in-law.
Barcant and her late husband Malcolm Barcant, best known for his life's work in creating the Angostura Barcant Butterfly Collection in Trinidad, had emigrated to Lakeland in their retirement years to be with Crystal and her family. They remained in touch with their many close friends and family in Trinidad who will remember Barcant's love of life and generosity of spirit. In true Trini fashion she was an engaging storyteller enriched by wonderful memories of life in a changing Trinidad over the decades-from her birth in Port-of-Spain in 1911.
Her communication and other physical skills have understandably weakened in recent years, and her independence was curtailed since she very reluctantly stopped driving at age 90, but her smiles remained. Those who attended enjoyed the celebrations. Her children acknowledged and thanked the many friends and family who sent greetings from Trinidad, Barbados, St Lucia as well as other parts of US, Canada, Europe and Australia.
