Driving on the south-bound Uriah Butler Highway between Grand Bazaar and Chaguanas has become a nightmare, particularly at night. The road was repaved some time ago, but to date no white lines have been painted to separate the three lanes, or to mark the shoulder. To make matters worse, at some point there are two concrete walls at the side of the road. With-out a line to mark where the left lane begins, you may drive unknowingly on the shoulder and could easily have an accident as these walls seem to appear out of nowhere. Clearly the walls should be painted in fluorescent colours to alert motorists.
Another hazard is the newly installed short poles on the edge of the right lanes on both sides of the highway. I am not sure about their purpose but they too are not clearly visible at night and pose an additional danger to the motorist. I would like to plead with the Minister of Works to immediately remove these perils which motorists travelling on the highway have to face on a nightly basis.
