Positive messages through musical words of wisdom seem to be the main characteristic in the tracks that are about to be released by Tobagonian artiste, Obediah Thomas. The 44-year-old vocalist and songwriter is making good use of his talent to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle to anyone with whom he comes into contact. Through a new album that's carded to be unleashed today at Mount Grace Community Centre in Tobago, Thomas harmonises on several tracks, joined on a few by female singer, Julia Baynes. Thomas delivers a myriad of strictly positive lyrics atop soothing melodies that's somewhat reminiscent of the 80's.
In light of the national state of emergency, the album's release may just be what the doctor ordered, according to members of Thomas' team. They rationalise that Thomas' rhythmic, positive messages could inject hope into young minds and power into elders. Thomas has been a champion for calypso and other traditional Caribbean musical genres since the age of eight. At age 44, he has marked a number of successes, among them, being honoured as the most promising calypsonian in Tobago in 1991. Having been a part of the Tobago Hotel circuit as a musician over the past 15 years, Thomas knows what it takes to engage audiences, and he is prepared to engage them further with several brand new, hard hitting yet soothing singles, among them, one he calls Running.
He's calling on those who love music to simply listen with the heart and allow the mind and body to feel this as he transitions himself from being simply another Tobago island artiste, to charting a new road aimed at gaining national, regional and international recognition.
