Jazz At The Top 2011, sched­uled for Sat­ur­day on the San Fer­nan­do Hill un­der the pa­tron­age of the May­or of San Fer­nan­do, has been can­celled. The San Fer­nan­do Jazz Fes­ti­val's or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee de­cid­ed to shelve its plans for its eight edi­tion, en­ti­tled New Hori­zons. Chair­man/artis­tic di­rec­tor Rudolph Thomas said the com­mit­tee met re­cent­ly to ex­am­ine the im­pli­ca­tions of the ex­tend­ed state of emer­gency on this year's pre­sen­ta­tion. They con­clud­ed that the con­straints im­posed by the cur­few would have a dele­te­ri­ous ef­fect on var­i­ous crit­i­cal as­pects of the pro­duc­tion, there­by af­fect­ing its vi­a­bil­i­ty.

The com­mit­tee has apol­o­gised to its fans. The San Fer­nan­do Jazz Fes­ti­val had its birth in 2004 and was the brain­child of south­ern cul­tur­al im­pre­sario Dawad Phillip as part of a co-ini­tia­tive-San­do Alive-with the San Fer­nan­do City Cor­po­ra­tion to re-es­tab­lish San Fer­nan­do in the cul­tur­al spot­light as an en­ter­tain­ment cen­tre. The event al­so was de­signed to co­in­cide with San Fer­nan­do City Week cel­e­bra­tions next month. Over the years, the fes­ti­val has show­cased an im­pres­sive en­ter­tain­ment line­up of lo­cal, re­gion­al and in­ter­na­tion­al artistes with fans putting all aside to make the trek up the ma­jes­tic San Fer­nan­do Hill, the home of the fes­ti­val.
