For­mer na­tion­al youth play­er Den­zil James copped the Crick­eter of the Year ti­tle at the 2011 East Zone prize giv­ing cer­e­mo­ny held re­cent­ly.James play­ing for Pris­ons Sports Club scored 773 runs at an av­er­age of 77.3 with high­est score of 243 runs at Curepe Sports. He al­so had scores of 110 against Cane Farm and 103 against UWI crick­et club.James beat out Bob­by Solozano, Naren­dra Bridge­lal, Stephan Whar­wood and Zone chair­man Taran­dath Sam­my.The Rook­ie of the Year award went to Valenti­no Beekhi who scored 289 runs with a high­est score of 132 at an av­er­age of 32.1.

De­liv­er­ing the fea­ture ad­dress was pres­i­dent of the TTCB, Az­im Bas­sarath. He con­grat­u­lat­ed all the win­ners on the night and praised the ef­forts of the Zone for tak­ing crick­et back up the lad­der in the Zone."We are very hap­py with the prod­ucts you are send­ing out from this part of the coun­try and I want to con­grat­u­late the of­fi­cials of the Zone for their hard work. Many times you see sit­u­a­tions were the of­fi­cials do so much hard work but they are nev­er recog­nised. Tonight I want to pay trib­ute to you guys for the job well done."
