Former national youth player Denzil James copped the Cricketer of the Year title at the 2011 East Zone prize giving ceremony held recently.James playing for Prisons Sports Club scored 773 runs at an average of 77.3 with highest score of 243 runs at Curepe Sports. He also had scores of 110 against Cane Farm and 103 against UWI cricket club.James beat out Bobby Solozano, Narendra Bridgelal, Stephan Wharwood and Zone chairman Tarandath Sammy.The Rookie of the Year award went to Valentino Beekhi who scored 289 runs with a highest score of 132 at an average of 32.1.
Delivering the feature address was president of the TTCB, Azim Bassarath. He congratulated all the winners on the night and praised the efforts of the Zone for taking cricket back up the ladder in the Zone."We are very happy with the products you are sending out from this part of the country and I want to congratulate the officials of the Zone for their hard work. Many times you see situations were the officials do so much hard work but they are never recognised. Tonight I want to pay tribute to you guys for the job well done."
