Come August 20 at the La Joya Auditorium, Curepe, patrons will be treated to cocktails from 6-6.30pm, followed by an explosion of musical entertainment from 6.30-8pm delivered by T&T’s LeAndra Head, 3 Canal, David Bereaux Marva Newton, and Tobago’s John Arnold and Lynette Louis, at the auspicious event, An August Evening.
LeAndra, a young soprano opera singer, has been inspired by soul, R&B and jazz artistes Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Adele, to name a few, helping her craft her musical identity while maintaining LeAndra.
Distinguished guitarist David Bereaux and songstress Marva Newton will bring their A-game of supreme vintage calypso with a bellyful of humourous lyrics, while Nathanael (Nathanael Hamilton/Nathanael Fisherman) rides the waves of peace and love. In a surprise twist, he can deliver R&B, gospel, dancehall and Caribbean music, but unreservedly underscores positivity which he unapologetically advocates through his lyrics. He has been in music from a tender age and is quite accomplished.
3 Canal comprising Wendell Manwarren, Roger Roberts and Stanton Kewley, famed for their conscious, thought-provoking and insightful Rapso, promises to turn La Joya “upside down” even if they can’t paint the whole place blue.
John Arnold and Lynette Louis are forces to be reckoned with. Coming from Tobago’s only jazz ensemble, Kariwak Players, Arnold “believes in the power of music and the arts.” He’s an event festivals consultant and expert, and has no reservations to place strong emphasis on jazz. The renowned musician, vocalist, producer and promoter among his many hats, is the founder of the Signal Hill Alumni Choir three years ago (2019).
Quite recently Arnold executed a most unique event that for the first time brought the indigenous instrument of Tobago, Tambrin, in a collaborative space with the Tabla in one of his attempts to ensure the instrument gains prominence worldwide. Vocalist Lynette Louis’s noted for her penetrating voice, infectious lyrics and melodious harmony. Louis is favourably known in the wider jazz world.
