Avril Alexander hails from south Trinidad, and while her larger-than-life creative talent may have gone largely unnoticed at home in her early years, the international stage quickly recognised her gift.
Also known as Diamond Eyez for her keen eye for beauty and detail, Alexander has been a professional event planner, décor artist and educator for nearly nine years. Her journey began in Brooklyn, New York, where she wowed patrons with high-tier events such as the Radica Pazzazz Black & White Ball and Culture Kids Glow. Despite her international success, Alexander has remained deeply committed to her homeland.
“I started travelling back to Trinidad to showcase my internationally appreciated décor skills,” Alexander revealed. “To prove my talent, I began with a few events, including Isasha’s birthday at San Fernando Hills, Fine Wine in Point Fortin, and Wahala at the Queen’s Park Oval. Now I’m ready to plant a bigger seed and bring my vision and dreams to life for my people through my event planning boutique, Diamond Touch.”
Diamond Touch has earned a reputation for delivering standout décor for virtually any occasion—across cultures, themes and locations—often incorporating bespoke, handmade elements.
“We are committed to bringing your plans to reality,” Alexander said. “We are one-of-a-kind—like candy to the décor world. We also guide and empower clients who want to be involved in creating their own décor.”
Reflecting on her early years, Alexander shared that creativity came naturally to her as a child. She could always envision how a space could be transformed, but found little encouragement at home or at school. As a teenager and young adult, she observed that creativity was not widely viewed in Trinidad and Tobago as a viable career path, even for those naturally gifted.
“Many people have suffered because of that mindset,” she noted, “but I took a leap of faith.”
Last year, Alexander returned to Trinidad and hosted a series of free décor classes for children aged eight to 11—an initiative she hopes to continue.
Diamond Touch will officially launch in T&T today with a grand opening scheduled for noon at 142 Southern Main Road, Marabella.
