Five inducted into St Mary’s Hall of Fame

Five dis­tin­guished peo­ple were in­duct­ed in­to the St Mary’s Col­lege Hall of Fame ear­li­er this week, as the school con­tin­ued its long­stand­ing tra­di­tion of recog­nis­ing past stu­dents, in­di­vid­u­als and groups as­so­ci­at­ed with the in­sti­tu­tion, as well as those who con­tributed to so­ci­ety.

The cer­e­mo­ny was es­tab­lished on Oc­to­ber 9, 1997.

On Tues­day, the school held its Pen Por­traits for 2023 In­ductees at the 13th In­duc­tion Hall of Fame cer­e­mo­ny at the school’s au­di­to­ri­um.

The five in­ductees were past stu­dents Patrick Arnold, Bish­op Fr Clyde Mar­tin Har­vey, Car­los David Hee Houng, Pro­fes­sor Ju­lian Ken­ny and neu­ro­sur­geon Dr Samuel Ghouralal.

Ghouralal first at­tend­ed Na­pari­ma Col­lege, San Fer­nan­do, be­fore head­ing to St Mary’s. He died on April 6, 1991.

Ghouralal was recog­nised for his work in pi­o­neer­ing and build­ing the prac­tice of neu­ro­surgery in T&T.

Arnold was in­duct­ed for his ded­i­cat­ed con­tri­bu­tions to the de­vel­op­ment of the steel­band move­ment and was al­so the re­cip­i­ent of the Cha­co­nia Gold Medal.

Ded­i­cat­ed to God and Ser­vice to the peo­ple of T&T, Bish­op Fr Clyde Mar­tin Har­vey was al­so a past stu­dent of St Mary’s Col­lege from 1960 un­til he grad­u­at­ed in 1966.

In 1967, he taught briefly at the col­lege and then left to pur­sue his love for God’s work.

An­oth­er re­cip­i­ent, Hee Houng, went on to be­come an en­gi­neer af­ter grad­u­at­ing.

He was al­so ho­n­oured in 1985 on the 25th an­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of the Fac­ul­ty of En­gi­neer­ing, and for out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to Na­tion­al De­vel­op­ment at The Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies, St Au­gus­tine.

This year, he re­ceived the the Cha­co­nia Medal (Sil­ver) for his con­tri­bu­tion to the en­er­gy sec­tor.

Ken­ny was in­duct­ed for his sci­en­tif­ic re­search and work in en­vi­ron­men­tal pro­tec­tion and preser­va­tion.
