Robert Young just re­turned from Por­tu­gal Fash­ion Week where The Cloth showed on the main Run­way through the Cre­ative Africa Nexus (CANEX) in­clu­sion. This re­sult­ed from a part­ner­ship be­tween the Na­tion­al As­so­ci­a­tion of Young En­tre­pre­neurs in Por­tu­gal and the African Ex­port-Im­port Bank (Afrex­im­bank) pro­mot­ing the African tex­tile and cloth­ing in­dus­try in Por­tu­gal.

In re­cent years, The Cloth has been one of three Caribbean brands to be fea­tured on the Iber­ian Penin­su­la. The oth­ers are Pe­ta Ou­di­ni Suther­land from St Vin­cent and the Grenadines and the col­lab­o­ra­tion of PA­PAIŸO and Meil­ing, who were fea­tured last year.

These in­ter­na­tion­al in­roads speak vol­umes for our re­gion­al cre­ative ex­cel­lence and Caribbean fash­ion sen­si­bil­i­ty.

“The op­por­tu­ni­ty was sig­nif­i­cant, rep­re­sent­ing a Caribbean brand on a Eu­ro­pean plat­form with­in an African con­text. The re­sponse was phe­nom­e­nal with op­por­tu­ni­ties for trade open­ing up. Al­so, it was great ex­pe­ri­enc­ing how the Por­tuguese sup­port their ar­ti­sanal craft and slow fash­ion in the city of Por­to,” said Robert Young, the founder and prin­ci­pal de­sign­er of the fash­ion house The Cloth.
