Fete de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is celebrated in 120 countries on June 21.
In T&T the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise partnered with Port-of-Spain Mayor Chinua Alleyne to celebrate the 111th anniversary with an evening filled with live performances of music and dancing.
Setting the high energy tone for the celebrations was the First Citizens Dragon Boy’s Tassa Group as they heralded the arrival of French Ambassador Dider Chabert and his wife Marguerite to Sound Forge, the venue for the event.
Among the live performers were members of Zena’s Dance Academy of Sangre Grande with an interpretation of Ganges Meets The Nile.
Lu Joe, a versatile four-member band, captivated the audience as they performed Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” and other R&B songs and Caribbean Steelpan Connection had the crowd moving to the rhythm of the steelpan.
The evening ended with guests dancing to music supplied by a DJ.
