World Steel­pan Day 2026 will be cel­e­brat­ed on to­mor­row with a full day of per­for­mances, an An­ces­tral Walk and a ma­jor youth show­case at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah.

Pan Trin­ba­go and the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment will host a day of per­for­mances and cul­tur­al ac­tiv­i­ties on Tues­day, Au­gust 11, as Trinidad and To­ba­go marks World Steel­pan Day 2026.

The cel­e­bra­tions will be held un­der the theme “Rhythm and Rise: Youth. Dis­ci­pline. Cul­ture. Com­mu­ni­ty.” and will form the cen­tre­piece of Pan Trin­ba­go’s 34th an­nu­al Au­gust Fest, Steel­pan Month.

Au­gust Fest was es­tab­lished in 1992 to cel­e­brate Trinidad and To­ba­go’s na­tion­al mu­si­cal in­stru­ment and its con­tri­bu­tion to the coun­try’s cul­tur­al her­itage.

The pro­gramme will be­gin at 10 am at the Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Or­ches­tra Pa­n­yard, with per­for­mances by Old Tech Steel Or­ches­tra, Kim­ber­ley’s Roy­al Steel Or­ches­tra, Bon Air Rhythm Rock­ers, Kalo­mo Kings, Hill Top­pers and Cordettes.

An An­ces­tral Walk will fol­low at 1.30 pm, with par­tic­i­pants leav­ing the All Stars pa­n­yard and mak­ing their way to the bp Rene­gades Steel Or­ches­tra Pa­n­yard.

The pro­ces­sion is in­tend­ed to ho­n­our the pi­o­neers of the steel­pan move­ment and recog­nise the con­tri­bu­tion of gen­er­a­tions of tuners, arrangers, builders, per­form­ers and ed­u­ca­tors.

The pro­gramme will con­tin­ue at the Rene­gades pa­n­yard from 2.15 pm, with per­for­mances by BARS of Steel, Lega­cy Steel, San Juan North Sec­ondary and Sap­phon­ics Youth Steel Or­ches­tra.

The day’s main event will be­gin at 5.30 pm at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, where 14 youth steel or­ches­tras will per­form.

They are Matthews Acad­e­my, Mo­town Ju­niors, Tor­na­does, Siparia Del­tones, Fon­claire Ju­niors, Ex­ocubs, Ari­ma An­gel Harps, Courts Sound Spe­cial­ists of Laven­tille, Phase II Ju­niors Pan Groove, Des­per­a­does, Trinidad All Stars Youth, FCB Su­per­novas, bp Rene­gades Youth and Shell In­vaders Youth Steel Or­ches­tra.

An Au­gust Fest Steel­pan Vil­lage will al­so be es­tab­lished at the Sa­van­nah, fea­tur­ing ex­hibitors, dis­plays, cul­tur­al demon­stra­tions and in­ter­ac­tive ac­tiv­i­ties high­light­ing the crafts­man­ship and his­to­ry of the in­stru­ment.

Pan Trin­ba­go said World Steel­pan Day rep­re­sents the cul­mi­na­tion of its 34-year Au­gust Fest pro­gramme and pro­vides an op­por­tu­ni­ty to recog­nise the pi­o­neers who trans­formed dis­card­ed ma­te­ri­als in­to the steel­pan.

The or­gan­i­sa­tion said the cel­e­bra­tions al­so high­light the in­stru­ment’s in­ter­na­tion­al in­flu­ence and its role in pro­mot­ing cul­tur­al iden­ti­ty, cre­ativ­i­ty, in­clu­sion and com­mu­ni­ty.
