ANSA McAL yesterday announced the appointment of David Welch as the managing director of Carib Brewery, effective January 15, 2024

In a news release issued yesterday by ANSA McAL's chief executive officer, Anthony Sabga III, the group said in this role, Welch will report directly to the group's sector head - beverage and will have oversight and overall responsibility for the operations and implementation of the company's business strategic objectives.

The group said Welch is no stranger to ANSA McAL, as he had previously held the position of marketing director at Carib Brewery from 2000 to 2006.

The release stated, "He is an experienced executive with a proven track record in the fast-moving consumer goods industry (FMCG) and most recently led the successful operations as the chief operating officer at Dairy Distributors. He was also the former export manager at Nabisco International."

It continued, "David is firm in his belief that transformative leadership and organisational purpose are the cornerstones of a thriving workforce, driving innovation and success. He brings a strategic mindset to stimulate performance and growth as well as significant financial and operational expertise."

ANSA McAL said along with his substantial industry experience, Welch attained his MBA (distinction) from the Anglia Ruskin University with a specialisation in project and supply chain management.

In comments in the group's unaudited financials for the nine months ended September 30, 2023, ANSA McAL chairman, Norman Sabga said: "Our newly commissioned, state-of-the-art returnable bottling line at Carib Brewery will enable increased capacity for exports, ensure consistent production of high-quality beverages with greater operational efficiency, reduced waste and lower water and energy consumption.

"This significant investment underscores our deep commitment to the circular economy, with its focus on re-use and re-cycling."

In those financials, ANSA McAL reported after-tax profit of $323.78 million compared with $$13.73 million for the same period in 2022. The group's profits for the nine-month period exceed the $251.52 million it earned for its 2022 financial year.

Carib Brewery operates four breweries located in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada and Florida and offers its brands in over 33 markets worldwide, according to the group's website.

In July, ANSA McAL announced it had acquired a minority interest in the issued and allotted ordinary share capital of the Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Company Ltd.
