The Digicel Group has appointed Laurent “LT” Therivel to its board of directors.
In a news release yesterday, Digicel said, “Mr Therivel brings more than two decades of leadership across the telecommunications and technology sectors, including distinguished roles as CEO of US Cellular, senior executive at AT&T, and a foundational career as a communications officer in the US Marine Corps. His experience spans operational execution, financial management, and strategic transformation in both complex emerging markets and highly regulated US environments.”
Rajeev Suri, chairman of Digicel Group, said, “Laurent’s experience balances scale, innovation, and market complexity. He is a respected voice in the global telecom industry, and we are privileged to welcome him to the Board as we navigate the next chapter of Digicel’s growth.”
Digicel Group CEO Marcelo Cataldo added in the release, “Digicel is at a critical and exciting inflection point. Laurent’s operational expertise and strategic instincts will be a tremendous asset as we sharpen our focus on building the digital infrastructure and enterprise solutions that will define connectivity across our markets.”
Therivel’s appointment strengthens Digicel’s Board at a time when the company is accelerating its transformation agenda across its 25 markets in the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
Digicel has been in the process of restructuring after the company entered into a consensual restructuring support agreement in June 2023 as Digicel sought to address its debt of US$3.8 billion.
In the past month, Digicel shut down two of its media operations sports channel Sportsmax and digital news company Loop News.
Loop ceased operations with immediate effect on July 8, 2025, while Sportsmax broadcast for the last time on Friday, August 8, 2025.
