The Dig­i­cel Group has ap­point­ed Lau­rent “LT” Theriv­el to its board of di­rec­tors.

In a news re­lease yes­ter­day, Dig­i­cel said, “Mr Theriv­el brings more than two decades of lead­er­ship across the telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions and tech­nol­o­gy sec­tors, in­clud­ing dis­tin­guished roles as CEO of US Cel­lu­lar, se­nior ex­ec­u­tive at AT&T, and a foun­da­tion­al ca­reer as a com­mu­ni­ca­tions of­fi­cer in the US Ma­rine Corps. His ex­pe­ri­ence spans op­er­a­tional ex­e­cu­tion, fi­nan­cial man­age­ment, and strate­gic trans­for­ma­tion in both com­plex emerg­ing mar­kets and high­ly reg­u­lat­ed US en­vi­ron­ments.”

Ra­jeev Suri, chair­man of Dig­i­cel Group, said, “Lau­rent’s ex­pe­ri­ence bal­ances scale, in­no­va­tion, and mar­ket com­plex­i­ty. He is a re­spect­ed voice in the glob­al tele­com in­dus­try, and we are priv­i­leged to wel­come him to the Board as we nav­i­gate the next chap­ter of Dig­i­cel’s growth.”

Dig­i­cel Group CEO Marce­lo Catal­do added in the re­lease, “Dig­i­cel is at a crit­i­cal and ex­cit­ing in­flec­tion point. Lau­rent’s op­er­a­tional ex­per­tise and strate­gic in­stincts will be a tremen­dous as­set as we sharp­en our fo­cus on build­ing the dig­i­tal in­fra­struc­ture and en­ter­prise so­lu­tions that will de­fine con­nec­tiv­i­ty across our mar­kets.”

Theriv­el’s ap­point­ment strength­ens Dig­i­cel’s Board at a time when the com­pa­ny is ac­cel­er­at­ing its trans­for­ma­tion agen­da across its 25 mar­kets in the Caribbean, Cen­tral Amer­i­ca, and South Amer­i­ca.

Dig­i­cel has been in the process of re­struc­tur­ing af­ter the com­pa­ny en­tered in­to a con­sen­su­al re­struc­tur­ing sup­port agree­ment in June 2023 as Dig­i­cel sought to ad­dress its debt of US$3.8 bil­lion.

In the past month, Dig­i­cel shut down two of its me­dia op­er­a­tions sports chan­nel Sports­max and dig­i­tal news com­pa­ny Loop News.

Loop ceased op­er­a­tions with im­me­di­ate ef­fect on Ju­ly 8, 2025, while Sports­max broad­cast for the last time on Fri­day, Au­gust 8, 2025.
