Rap­so col­lec­tive 3canal kicked off their 2023 Car­ni­val cam­paign on Fri­day evening with the first in a se­ries of week­ly Back­yard Jam ses­sions at their base, The Big Black Box on Mur­ray Street, Wood­brook.

While COVID-19 cas­es are in­creas­ing, Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley says the cur­rent sit­u­a­tion does not war­rant post­pon­ing or can­celling Car­ni­val 2023. He how­ev­er said the sit­u­a­tion does in fact re­quire in­creased per­son­al re­spon­si­bil­i­ty.

Hav­ing prac­tised for just over a month, 50 stu­dents from the Pleas­antville Sec­ondary School en­tered the pre­lim­i­nary round of the 2023 Na­tion­al Sec­ondary Schools Ju­nior Panora­ma com­pe­ti­tion on Wednes­day.

The call came from Wen­dell Ever­s­ley, Vice Pres­i­dent of the Tas­sa As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T. at the time, Ever­s­ley was ad­dress­ing the 2022 Na­tion­al Tas­sara­ma Prize-Giv­ing Func­tion at the au­di­to­ri­um of the Cou­va/Point Lisas Cham­ber of Com­merce (CPLCC) ad­min­is­tra­tive com­plex, at Cam­den Road in Cou­va, on Tues­day night.

The Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion launched its Car­ni­val 2023 The Moth­er of All Car­ni­vals at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, yes­ter­day with a pa­rade of tra­di­tion­al Car­ni­val char­ac­ters such as Pier­rot Grenades, Dames Lor­raine, Moko Jumbies, Jab Jabs, Mid­night Rob­bers, Go­ril­las, Fan­cy  In­di­ans, Fan­cy Sailors,  Blue Dev­ils, mud mas, pret­ty mas, and steel bands.

Thou­sands packed the streets of Bon Ac­cord and Crown Point on Sat­ur­day for the J'Ou­vert cel­e­bra­tion at To­ba­go's Car­ni­val. The event took the form of a pa­rade that start­ed in the vicin­i­ty of the Bon Ac­cord Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and head­ed straight for Crown Point. There were no judg­ing points.

The Mer­ry Monarch is ex­pect­ed to reign on the streets and en­ter­tain­ment are­nas of T&T once again come Jan­u­ary and Feb­ru­ary 2023. Fu­elled by the pent-up en­er­gy and an­tic­i­pa­tion com­ing off of the pan­dem­ic which con­strained fes­tiv­i­ties for the past two years, Car­ni­val 2023 or C2K23 is ex­pect­ed to be a mega one. Lead­ing the charge in de­clar­ing the 2023 fes­ti­val “The Moth­er of All Car­ni­vals” is the gov­ern­ing body for Car­ni­val the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Com­mis­sion (NCC).

Cruis­es on board the MV Har­bour Mas­ter have been can­celled for the re­main­der of the To­ba­go Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions be­cause of bad weath­er.

With just two days to go be­fore To­ba­go Car­ni­val, ho­tel and guest house oc­cu­pan­cy is es­ti­mat­ed to be ap­prox­i­mate­ly 80 per cent.

With Car­ni­val 2023 less than five months away, the Trinidad and To­ba­go Car­ni­val Bands As­so­ci­a­tion (TTC­BA) re­mains in tur­moil, en­gulfed by in­fight­ing, res­ig­na­tions and on­go­ing le­gal bat­tles.

To ac­com­mo­date all per­sons who wish to trav­el dur­ing the Car­ni­val pe­ri­od, the Trinidad and To­ba­go In­ter-is­land Trans­porta­tion Com­pa­ny Lim­it­ed (TTIT) has sched­uled ad­di­tion­al sail­ings and resched­uled oth­ers, on the seabridge.
