It is the most-awarded play ever in the history of T&T, winning ten awards out of 15, a record which stands up to today.
The play is Mary Could Dance, written by Richard Ragoobarsingh and directed by recently passed theatre icon Raymond Choo Kong.
The play is considered to be an iconic piece of theatre that has played to audiences not only in T&T but across the Caribbean for over20 years.
Mary Could Dance is loved by thousands of patrons and considered by many to be the best play ever out of T&T and it is back for an exclusive few performances in tribute to Choo Kong who had loved the play.
The original cast has agreed to a few performances and as such there will be a selected few shows so patrons will have a limited opportunity to see the play.
Mary Could Dance will be staged tonight at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (Napa), Port-of-Spain, with a repeat staging tomorrow evening.
Mary Could Dance is chosen because it is currently the benchmark of excellence in local theatre and holds the record for most awards ever won by a single production (ten), including Best Actress, Best Director, Best Sound, Best Lighting, Best Choreography, Best Script, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Set and Best Production.
The cast include such talents as Penelope Spencer, Glenn Davis, Cecilia Salazar, Roger Dickie , Dionne Mc Nichol and Richard Ragoobarsingh.
Mary Could Dance features everything, from exotic dancing and HIV/Aids to cat fights, to romance, to the antics of the scandalous pimp/bar owner Mule.
