Three suspects believed to have beaten, robbed, raped and sodomised two women, after abducting them following a party in San Fernando last week, have been arrested by police.
The suspects were nabbed around 3 am Friday at their homes in Diamond Village, San Fernando. A team of officers headed by Sgt Clint Williams and including Cpl Narine Bisnath, PCs Morris and Sheldon Gosine went to the homes of the suspects and arrested them. The men, aged 27, 24 and 22, who are a businessman, labourer and mechanic, were taken to the San Fernando CID where they were interviewed.
Police said they will be interrogated separately and profiled before appearing on identification parades in connection with the rape.
The women, of South Oropouche and Siparia, were reportedly abducted, gang-raped and sodomised by four men in a white Nissan Tiida on December 30. The friends said they went partying at Club La Vega in San Fernando and at around 3.15 am they tried to get transportation to go home. While they were waiting the four men pulled up and a gunman ordered them into the car. They were taken to a bushy area off the M2 Ring Road where they were sexually assaulted. They were later dropped off in Penal by the suspects, who did not bother to hide their faces from the victims. Police said they are searching for a fourth suspect.
Police have since advised women to desist from travelling alone or from entering unknown private vehicles.
Once the men are charged they will appear before a San Fernando magistrate. PC Gosine is continuing investigations.
