Three police officers who helped prevent a 14-yer-old girl from jumping off the top of the Parkade car park in Port-of-Spain last week, were among 13 officers who received commendations from the executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service yesterday for hard work and dedication.
The officers were recognised during a ceremony at the Police Administration Building in Port-of-Spain, arranged to highlight three groups of officers for their exemplary performance.
A release said the three officers, Cpl (Ag.) George and PCs Andrews and Nanan, were members of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) “whose decisiveness and critical thinking on June 1, 2022, resulted in a 14-year-old girl’s life being saved from a tragic end.”
On June 1, the officers were alerted to the girl threatening to jump off the top of the Parkade and made their way to the top floor, where they saw her sitting on a railing overlooking the street. The minor was being spoken to by two concerned citizens attempting to lure her away from the ledge.
PC Andrews cautiously took over those attempts, assuring the girl that her life held value and she would be given any help she needed to overcome whatever situation she faced.
As she kept her attention on him, Cpl George cautiously approached her from behind and was able to grab hold of her and bring her to safety.

She was taken to the Central Police Station on St Vincent Street, where she was interviewed and taken for medical treatment.
A police statement yesterday said they received high praise from the executive and a token of appreciation.
Ten members of the Special Branch Unit were also acknowledged for their extensive work that resulted in the historic seizure of a large quantity of Ketamine drug valued at over $8 million on January 25, 2022.
“It was the first find of its kind in the country and resulted in one man being charged. CoP (Ag.) Jacob, in addressing the officers, stressed that although the work was part of their normal duties, there were far-reaching positive outcomes for the Service and the country that couldn’t be quantified due to the huge impact made on transnational crime,” the statement said.
Jacob also presented instruments of appointment to W/Sgt Allison Joseph and Sgts Brian Daniel and Eric Knutt, in recognition of their promotion to inspector rank.
