There are now 622 COVID-19 cas­es emerg­ing among staff and stu­dents in schools na­tion­wide since the start of the third aca­d­e­m­ic term.

Pre­sent­ing the fig­ures for cas­es be­tween May 2-8 pro­vid­ed by the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion on Wednes­day, Min­is­ter of Health Ter­rence Deyals­ingh said 306 cas­es came from 144 schools. The week pri­or saw 288 cas­es from 243 schools, while the first week of the term saw 28 in­stances from 16 schools. 

Based on the num­bers for the third week of the term, St George East had the most con­firmed cas­es, with 83 com­ing from 30 schools.

Close­ly fol­low­ing was Port-of-Spain with 82 pos­i­tive cas­es from 34 schools.

Ca­roni and Vic­to­ria dis­tricts tied with 44 con­firmed cas­es com­ing from 24 and 25 schools re­spec­tive­ly.

North East and St Patrick had 19 pos­i­tive cas­es com­ing from 11 schools each. South East had the fewest cas­es with 15 con­firmed from nine schools.
