70-year-old shoots bandit in Curepe

A Mor­vant man is in sta­ble con­di­tion af­ter he tried to rob a pa­tron at a restau­rant in Curepe on Tues­day night.

Po­lice said the 70-year-old pa­tron, who is a li­censed firearm own­er, was wait­ing to col­lect food at a restau­rant on the South­ern Main Road, around 8.15 pm, when he was con­front­ed by a man and a woman who or­dered him to hand over his cash.

The male ban­dit pushed his hand in­to the pa­tron’s pock­et and pulled out his wal­let.

While walk­ing to the door, the vic­tim pulled out his Glock 19 pis­tol and or­dered the ban­dit to stop.

How­ev­er, the ban­dit ran to­wards the man and tried to wres­tle his gun away.

Dur­ing the strug­gle, the ban­dit was shot once in his right arm.

Of­fi­cers from the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion were called in and took the in­jured sus­pect to the hos­pi­tal, where he re­mained up to yes­ter­day morn­ing.

The 20-year-old woman who was with the ban­dit at the time was al­so de­tained by po­lice.

Mal­abar man shot af­ter at­tack­ing rel­a­tives with cut­lass

A 37-year-old Mal­abar man is in sta­ble con­di­tion af­ter he was shot dur­ing a con­fronta­tion on Tues­day night.

Po­lice said the man got in­to an ar­gu­ment with a rel­a­tive and a neigh­bour on the cor­ner of Kelle­wan Av­enue and Train Line Road, around 9.30 pm, when he charged at one of them with a cut­lass.

One of the men, who was armed with a shot­gun, opend fire, hit­ting the at­tack­er in his left leg.

The in­jured man was tak­en to the hos­pi­tal, where he was be­ing treat­ed up to yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Of­fi­cers from the Mal­abar Po­lice Sta­tion are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.

Probe in­to of­fi­cer’s death

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to the death of a mu­nic­i­pal po­lice of­fi­cer whose body was found at her Port-of-Spain home on Tues­day night.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers were called to the Lodge Place home of Jaye Bonard by neigh­bours around 8.25 pm, who claimed to have tried mak­ing con­tact with her sev­er­al times through­out the day but re­ceived no re­sponse.

Of­fi­cers en­tered the home and found Bonard’s body on the floor of the bed­room, with white foam com­ing from her mouth. Her body bore no marks of vi­o­lence.

Neigh­bours told of­fi­cers that Bonard was an epilep­tic and was prone to seizures.

Of­fi­cers from the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion I al­so vis­it­ed the scene.

Po­lice said Bonard was last as­signed to the Port-of-Spain City Hall.
