Officers from the Port-of-Spain Task Force arrested an alleged member of the 1800 gang during a party on Sunday morning. Guns and ammunition were also seized.
Police said around 7 am, officers went to Cocoa Road off Mon Repos Road, Morvant, after a tip-off which stated the alleged gangster was at a party in the area.
When officers arrived partygoers scattered and ran in different directions. Officers pursued a man reportedly seen with a machine gun.
The man was held and an Extar EP9 9mm gun containing ten rounds of 9mm ammunition was seized.
The alleged gang member was arrested and taken to the Besson Street Police Station.
Policewoman’s brother stabbed to death
The bother of a policewoman was stabbed to death during an altercation outside a bar in Tabaquite early Sunday morning.
A 39-year-old man, also from Tabaquite, was in police custody yesterday after surrendering to officers.
Police identified the victim as Julien Hall, 41, from Tabaquite who was a Chemical Mixer at WASA.
Reports stated that around 2.30 am, the suspect contacted officers from the Gran Couva Police Station claiming that he had killed a man in self-defence. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators were reviewing CCTV footage taken from outside the bar and speaking to witnesses.
Soldier shoots gunman
One of two men, who attempted to shoot a member of the T&T Regiment, was shot and injured on Sunday.
A police report stated the 38-year-old Lance Corporal, who is assigned to Camp Cumuto, went to his Heights of Guanapo garden around 7.45 am when the two suspects armed with a pistol and rifle confronted him.
One of the men opened fire and the soldier returned fire, injuring him in the leg.
The other man fled. The injured suspect was held by officers.
