Details follow in this press release…
For the fourth consecutive year, thousands of girls and women from nine secondary schools have benefitted from a donation of 160,000 pads with the Always®#EndPeriodPoverty campaign in Trinidad and Tobago. The campaign forms part of a global outreach effort which helps to alleviate period poverty, while ensuring young women receive a full education.
The programme launched on 1st April 2022 and concluded on June 30th 2022. NGOs Kids in Need of Direction (KIND) and Helping Her assisted with the distribution of 160,000 Always® pads.
The campaign also included a host of well-known social media influencers who worked to educate and raise awareness of how period poverty affects girls. Consumers were also encouraged to get involved with the initiative by purchasing Always® products. For every purchase of Always pads during this period, Always® will in turn directly donate to a girl in need.
Around the world, millions of girls drop out of school each year because of period poverty, which is when girls and women lack access to sanitary products. In some parts of the world, they also lack menstrual hygiene education, toilets, hand washing facilities, and, or waste management facilities.
It is for this reason Always® continues to double down on its efforts while simultaneously increasing awareness on the issue of period poverty. With this donation, Always® aims to uplift young women and provide them with the confidence that is central to their achievement, while helping them stay in school and participate in extracurricular activities.
A total of 160,000 pads were distributed and the targeted schools were Coryal Secondary, Morvant Laventille Secondary, Matura Secondary, Penal Secondary, Fyzabad Secondary, Guayaguayare Secondary, Carapichaima West Secondary, Palo Seco Secondary and Speyside Secondary (Tobago).
Reshma Geawan, Business Unit Head, Procter and Gamble, Alston’s Marketing Company said, “We need to continue to meet the hygiene needs of all adolescent girls, as it is a fundamental human right. Inadequate menstrual hygiene is not a unique problem, and we must do our part by supporting and assisting those who are in need. Educating our young girls and boys on menstruation promotes healthy practices and breaks stigmas surrounding the body’s natural process. Always® is determined to make a positive difference in the lives of our young women and girls and will continue to find innovative and like-minded ways to improve access to period products.”
