St Au­gus­tine MP Khadi­jah Ameen has called Prime Min­is­ter's crit­i­cism of the Diego Mar­tin Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion, self­ish. She said he and his Gov­ern­ment, con­tin­u­ous­ly ig­nored the pleas from the Op­po­si­tion, mem­bers of the pub­lic and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials to ad­dress the same chal­lenges of a lack of re­sources and fund­ing for Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tions.

In a press re­lease, Ameen said "she hopes the Prime Min­is­ter will take mean­ing­ful re­me­di­al ac­tion across all Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment bod­ies now that it hit home."

Speak­ing at the re­open­ing of Skin­ner Park on Mon­day Row­ley said a bro­ken drain near his home caused wa­ter to come in­to his prop­er­ty, which un­der­mined his yard. He said he even­tu­al­ly had to fix the prob­lem him­self, but added, if cor­po­ra­tions had their own rev­enue, through Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment re­form, this, and oth­er is­sues would be avoid­ed.

But the UNC MP says the PM's state­ment is noth­ing more than an "at­tempt to ‘ma­m­aguy’ the pop­u­la­tion in­to prop­er­ty tax."

Ameen, in her re­lease, asked the Prime Min­is­ter to "spare a thought for ar­eas such as Mandin­go Road (Princes Town), Skin­ner Trace (Fyz­abad) and Clax­ton Bay where homes have been rav­aged by land­slides and Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tions are starved for fund­ing."
