Two senior police officers from the Royal Barbados Police Force, who arrived in the country on Tuesday have been sworn in as Special Reserve Officers and are expected to hit the ground running in their investigations as soon as their COVID-19 results are in.

According to a police source, the officers are expected to receive their results today and once they’re negative they will go straight to work.

The officers are here to commence investigations into the Drugs Sou- Sou (DSS) matter, where $22 million in cash was seized from the administrators at a house in La Horquetta last month and then returned by officers of the La Horquetta Police Station.

Their involvement in the case came after Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said he would enlist the help of foreign investigators to probe the matter given what he termed corruption in the local police service.

The officers arrived in T&T at about 3 pm on Tuesday and are currently staying in a hotel in Port-of-Spain.

One officer holds the rank of inspector and the other is a superintendent.

Last Thursday the prime minister said he asked the British and Barbados governments for help with investigations into the DSS raid.

Rowley said the roles of the police, the Defence Force and criminal gangs in that incident were matters of national security.

There is still no word yet on when British investigators will arrive to join in in the probe.
