Opposition Leader and People’s National Movement political leader Pennelope Beckles last night congratulated the Tobago People’s Party on securing a second consecutive term in office following the Tobago House of Assembly elections.
In a social media post, Beckles said, “Tonight’s Tobago House of Assembly elections have returned the Tobago People’s Party to office for a second consecutive term.”
She congratulated Chief Secretary Farley Chavez Augustine and those elected, and reflected on voter participation in the polls. “On this occasion, the low voter turnout speaks to the level of public satisfaction,” she said. “The PNM understands the necessity of reflection as we work toward rebuilding our party and regaining the trust and confidence of the people.”
Beckles thanked PNM supporters in Tobago and acknowledged the party’s candidates and campaign team. “I thank all who supported the Movement in Tobago, and I commend our fifteen standard-bearers who offered themselves to service,” she said. “To the PNM Tobago Island Council and the campaign team who supported this journey, I extend my thanks.”
She also recognised Ancil Dennis for his contribution to the party and to Tobago. “I wish to thank Mr. Ancil Dennis for his service, leadership, dedication, and continued commitment to the people of Tobago and the People’s National Movement prior to and during this election campaign,” Beckles said.
She offered best wishes to the incoming assembly and reaffirmed the party’s national outlook. “I offer best wishes to the incoming Tobago House of Assembly, as its success is ultimately tied to Tobago’s progress,” she said. “The People’s National Movement remains committed to constructive engagement, national unity, and the pursuit of a stronger and more united Trinidad and Tobago. We will regroup and return stronger and better ready to serve the people of Tobago, and of Trinidad and Tobago.”
