Investigations are continuing into the death of a Belmont man who reportedly died after tripping and hitting his head on the stairwell to his home.
While there were no signs of foul play, an autopsy has been ordered to find out the exact cause of death for Ian Leacock.
The 61-year-old of McDowell Trace, Upper St Barbs Hill in Belmont, was found lying at the bottom of the external staircase to his home around 12.30 am on Sunday.
A female relative told police she had been awakened by a loud noise and, upon checking, found the unconscious Leacock on the ground outside, with a wound to the head.
It was believed he had rolled down the 14 steps leading to the second floor of their home.
The woman said Leacock had originally left to drink with friends and was accustomed to returning home intoxicated.
She strongly believes he accidentally tripped and fell, hitting his head.
EHS personnel detected a faint pulse, and although CPR was administered, Leacock was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
