Southern Division police are investigating the accidental death of a 12-year-old Princes Town boy who died after falling onto a knife yesterday.

Tariq Toney, of Indian Walk, Princes Town, died on his way to the Princes Town District Health Facility (PTDHF) around 7 pm. A police report stated that Tariq was home with his parents around 5.30 pm. His mother, Jayloy Toney-Clarke and her husband, Arnold Clarke, were in their bedroom while Tariq cut coconuts at the back of the house.

Toney-Clarke called out to Tariq through a window to come inside and bathe.

A minute later, Tariq came into her bedroom bleeding from a wound to the neck, saying, "Look what happened, Mom. Look what happened."

Toney-Clarke called for an ambulance, but after waiting some time, her brother came to the house and took Tariq to the PTDHF.

However, staff said Tariq was unresponsive when they arrived. Police went to the home and processed the scene, and took custody of a wooden-handled knife. Investigators said that based on a doctor's assessment of the trajectory of the wound entering the neck, they believe Tariq fell onto it.
