The breathal­yser test will be con­duct­ed on peo­ple who are caught dri­ving while un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol and not peo­ple who are drink­ing on­ly. The clar­i­fi­ca­tion was made by act­ing Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice James Philbert on Tues­day at a lun­cheon host­ed by the Me­dia As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T.

"The thing about the breathal­yser is not to catch peo­ple who are drink­ing but to catch peo­ple who are dri­ving while un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol," he said. "So you can drink all you want while the bus is wait­ing on you out­side to take you home."

He called on cit­i­zens to use good sense and added that he and his of­fi­cers would be out on the streets to­day. "We are go­ing to be out on Old Year's Night...I am go­ing to be there and we are go­ing to choose cer­tain spots be­cause we don't have the full amount of (breathal­yser) kits. (RKR)
