As newly formed Tropical Storm Ernesto makes its way towards the Leeward Islands, Caribbean Airlines is announcing the cancellation of its flights to/from St Maarten and Antigua on Tuesday, August 13th. BW416/417 will now operate the Trinidad-Barbados-Jamaica sectors return, overflying St Maarten. CAL’s BW 280/281 service from POS-Antigua return is also cancelled.
The airline says this is due to the closure of both St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) and Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport. The V.C. Bird International Airport will close at 8pm Monday night and is expected to reopen at 3pm on Tuesday afternoon. The Princess Juliana International Airport will close on Tuesday morning at 10:00am and reopen on Thursday morning at 7am.
According to a release, passengers impacted by these cancellations will be re-accommodated on the next available flight.
