The Min­istry of Home Af­fairs has an­nounced the ap­point­ment of a Cana­di­an in­ves­ti­ga­tor to as­sist with the on­go­ing probe in­to the death of 11-year-old Adri­ana Younge.

 The move is in line with a com­mit­ment made by Pres­i­dent Dr Ir­faan Ali to en­sure a thor­ough and trans­par­ent in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

In a state­ment re­leased Thurs­day morn­ing, the Min­istry con­firmed that Leonard Mc Coshen, a re­tired of­fi­cer of the Roy­al Cana­di­an Mount­ed Po­lice (RCMP), has been en­gaged by the Gov­ern­ment of Guyana. 

Mc Coshen is a trained and cer­ti­fied ex­pert in homi­cide and sus­pi­cious death in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

With over three decades of ex­pe­ri­ence, Mc Coshen has ded­i­cat­ed 20 years of his ca­reer to the RCMP’s Se­ri­ous Crimes Branch with­in the Ma­jor Crimes Unit. 

Dur­ing this time, he was re­spon­si­ble for in­ves­ti­gat­ing com­plex and sen­si­tive cas­es, pri­mar­i­ly fo­cus­ing on homi­cides and in­ci­dents where foul play was sus­pect­ed.

Through­out his ca­reer, Mc Coshen has suc­cess­ful­ly su­per­vised and co­or­di­nat­ed more than 200 in­ves­ti­ga­tions, in­clud­ing cas­es in­volv­ing mur­der, kid­nap­ping, and oth­er se­ri­ous of­fences.

The Min­istry says his ex­ten­sive ex­pe­ri­ence and cre­den­tials are ex­pect­ed to sig­nif­i­cant­ly con­tribute to un­cov­er­ing the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing Adri­ana’s un­time­ly death.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­mains on­go­ing.
