The relatives of a Caroni man, who was shot 20 times at his home are struggling to cope with his murder.
Yesterday, Siddiq Ghany's uncle Sherif Ghany went to the Forensic Science Centre to identify his body.
He said the family was at a loss to understand why he was killed.
“People does just talk but when it reach by your doorstep, that is when you does feel it.”
Ghany, who would have celebrated his 30th birthday in July, was reportedly shot 20 times at his home at Gilbert Street, off Arbuckle Street, Frederick Street, Caroni, around 9 pm on May 27.
A man wearing a bullet-proof vest with the word "POLICE" written on it came out ran behind Ghany and stormed the house shooting him multiple times.
The 29-year-old father of two children aged seven and five, moved to the area three years ago from River Estate, Diego Martin, to live with his girlfriend and her family.
Grieving for his nephew yesterday, Ghany’s uncle Sherif said he used to plant a garden and work Cepep, while also accepting private hire jobs from residents living in the village.
Sherif said the family was still mourning the loss of his brother last week, and Siddiq’s murder had left them even more traumatised.
He claimed Siddiq had not been worried about his safety before, despite his car being hit two weeks ago.
The uncle said the minor fender bender occurred in the area but he highly doubted this could have led to the murder.
He said there were too many young, unemployed men walking the streets at night in Frederick Settlement contributing to the crime problem.
“There is nobody to tell them anything.”
Insisting the crime situation was, “Bad boy, bad...real bad,” Sherif said Siddiq’s both sisters and their husbands were on the Hajj pilgrimage and had been devastated by news of his death.
