Un­der­priv­i­leged stu­dents in Ch­agua­nas have re­ceived a boost for the new school term, with May­or Faaiq Mo­hammed dis­trib­ut­ing $75,000 in book grants on Thurs­day.

At the pre­sen­ta­tion cer­e­mo­ny, held at the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion’s Cum­ber­batch Street ad­min­is­tra­tive com­plex, the may­or said the ini­tia­tive was un­der­tak­en in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Of­fice of the May­or and mem­bers of Coun­cil.

He ex­plained that the project was fi­nanced through the May­or’s Fund, with each of the 150 re­cip­i­ents re­ceiv­ing a $500 book vouch­er to pur­chase es­sen­tial school sup­plies.

“In­vest­ing in ed­u­ca­tion is of para­mount im­por­tance to us. These chil­dren rep­re­sent the fu­ture of our na­tion, and by sup­port­ing their growth and learn­ing, we are en­sur­ing a brighter to­mor­row for every­one,” he said.

Mo­hammed added that his ef­forts would not end there, stat­ing that he re­mained will­ing to pro­vide fur­ther as­sis­tance to stu­dents dur­ing the school term.
