Underprivileged students in Chaguanas have received a boost for the new school term, with Mayor Faaiq Mohammed distributing $75,000 in book grants on Thursday.
At the presentation ceremony, held at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation’s Cumberbatch Street administrative complex, the mayor said the initiative was undertaken in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor and members of Council.
He explained that the project was financed through the Mayor’s Fund, with each of the 150 recipients receiving a $500 book voucher to purchase essential school supplies.
“Investing in education is of paramount importance to us. These children represent the future of our nation, and by supporting their growth and learning, we are ensuring a brighter tomorrow for everyone,” he said.
Mohammed added that his efforts would not end there, stating that he remained willing to provide further assistance to students during the school term.
